ANYONE who looks at my Instagram feed, where I often post sketches and 'works in progress', may know this project all began with a random bit of scribbly abstract digital art I\u2019d animated to a roughly laid down short composition. It was just a play about that could\u2019ve gone nowhere, but I was quite hooked on the 'Elb' synth sound I\u2019d discovered in Spectral Textures (a sound pack by musician and sound designer Uwe Zahn) which I had used to accompany the animation. The artwork I had created largely using a \u2018Stickman\u2019 digital brush. Despite being digital, it all felt very textured and organic, both the sound and the art, gelling visually and sonically, suggesting the project needed to be given more life. I chose the title right then, When Elb Met Stickman, which planted the seed for the character narrative.<\/p>

I worked on the soundtrack, simultaneously developing the artwork. The composition is a little different to my usual music pieces, more an atmospheric underscore, and not overly melodic. I imagined it being the background music to the birth of two beings, Elb and Stickman. The two characters are one and the same, who gained their own identities after splitting into two. The pair's textured, green and maroon patterned 'skin' I lifted directly from the original abstract sketch. I imagined Elb and Stickman to live in a world much like ours, only their's is totally covered with forest and unspoilt nature, homes created right within the natural landscapes. They use nature's gifts to sustain all they need. In their world, all beings are aware they live within a flourishing, rich eco system, each element and role respected and understood. Whether the part is played out by tiny organisms underground or large creatures overground, insects, fungi, trees, streams or oceans, the work of the biodiverse communities is communicated, amplified to ears, made visible to naked eyes, or computed by the antenna and cells of other species. In their world, beings have the ability to see sound waves, energy and electrical connectivity, which run like temporary tangible webs and mycelium through them, around them and between them. Elb and Stickman know themselves, nature and the universe are all as one and as a result, every creature and organism lives in harmony.<\/p>
