Forests, lakes, swamps and all kinds of other habitats continue to disappear as they are cleared to make way for agriculture, housing, roads, pipelines and other kinds of industries, including mining, trawling and logging.

The WWF says: "Around half of the world's original forests have disappeared, and they are still being removed at a rate 10x higher than any possible level of regrowth. As tropical forests contain at least half the Earth's species, the clearance of some 17 million hectares each year is a dramatic loss.

"Human impact on terrestrial and marine natural resources results in marine and coastal degradation. Population growth, urbanisation, industrialisation and tourism are all factors.

"Over time, destruction of habitats leads to reduced biodiversity, weakening the Earth's ecosystems, and ultimately posing a major threat to human life. "

As humans destroy natural habitats, we continue to contribute to global warming and climate change. The more trees that are cut down, the more carbon dioxide goes into the air and causes the Earth to heat up more quickly. This change in temperature is killing various species, especially in regions where the changes are extreme. Consequently, temperatures are becoming more unpleasant for us as time goes on and additional greenhouse fill the air.

Conserve Energy Future says: " As quickly as humans can destroy natural habitats, we should be just as willing to put forth the effort to rebuild and attempt to replace what is lost. For areas that cannot be saved, we can assist in funding the creation of areas that will serve as a refuge for displaced wildlife instead. These safe havens mimic the natural habitats that allow plants to grow and animals to live healthily without the threat of devastation. Efforts have been put in place to create these sanctuaries by environmentalists all over the world to protect species from extinction.

The print I created, via its honeycomb resemblance, gives a nod to just one tiny but massively vital species who are dying out as a result of habitat loss.

Since the Second World War, we’ve lost 97 per cent of our wildflower meadows, leaving our bees with little natural habitat. One third of our global food supply is pollinated by bees. When you sit down to dinner, think about what's on your plate - bees have played their part either pollinating the vegetables and fruits, or pollinating the food for the animals that we then consume. And that’s not to mention honey, wax and much more.

But honey bees are disappearing globally at an alarming rate due to pesticides, parasites, disease and habitat loss.

- Kelly Buckley (K-A-B)

I WROTE this piece of music and designed this print, with the global crisis surrounding habitat destruction in mind.
K-A-B All In The Cloud / Flowers in the Clouds (c) (p) 2020 is the name of Version of a music piece for a new collection of cues and jingles, which has also inspired t-shirt designs for men, women and kids and wall art prints too.
TODAY I’ve been recording sounds on the beach to make a sample.
